IMPROVING HEALTH FROM THE HEART OF LETCHWORTH
For more than two decades the Letchworth Centre has worked with great vision, passion and determination to widen the scope of health care in this country. Its remit has extended well beyond the provision of complementary medical treatment and for many years has included a broad range of self-help approaches for reducing stress, increasing vitality and well-being, improving health and preventing illness as well as an innovative programme of courses for health professionals.
A registered charity, it has since 1984:
- developed a hugely popular programme of classes and workshops teaching self-help, preventative approaches and techniques for reducing stress and back pain, which today draws over 1000 people each week.
- created a thriving clinic employing outstanding practitioners and a team of medical doctors who are qualified in homeopathy which inspires admiration and respect throughout the community.
- we designed and delivered a national programme of university-accredited courses for health professionals run at Thames Valley University and for Marie Curie Cancer Care which was hailed by the Nursing Times as a ‘milestone in the establishment of these (complementary) therapies within
the NHS.
- extended its educational provision to communities living in socio-economic deprivation and has established a department to take this work forward.
- been chosen Complementary Health Centre of the Year in 2002 for its contribution to the community.
- been short-listed in 2005 for the "Award for Best Integrated Practice" by the Prince of Wales' Foundation for Integrated Health
- The Centre has been a true pioneer in the field of complementary and integrated medicine.
